When you turn on your television, chances are you will see an advertisement related to weight loss. There are many diet fads out there for you to choose from, however, these programs are only designed for weight loss; not for optimal health, and for the prevention of disease. These diet programs are based on a macro-nutrient perspective that primarily focuses on portion control and calories derived from protein, carbs, and fats, leaving out the most important factor, “micro-nutrients!” The foods you primarily eat lack the micro-nutrients your body needs to lose weight permanently and prevent disease. Therefore, this leads you and many others to experience what is called, “The Emotional Roller Coaster Effect.” These programs cause you to loss weight for a short duration of time, only to gain it back when you fall off track. Leading you to feelings of burn out, continual frustration, and emotional failure. This is why so many people give up on nutrition and go back to their old ways of life. Plus, some of these programs require lots of time and energy measuring out portions and counting points.
You may be asking: “What is the Solution?”
Stop dieting! Say goodbye to the old macro-nutrient diets and embrace a micro-nutrient dense lifestyle! The days of portion control, counting calories, and points are over! In order to lose weight permanently and prevent disease, you must nourish the body at the micro/cellular level! Your body at the micro/cellular level requires micro-nutirents like vitamins, minerals, phytonutrients, fiber, and exogenous enzymes from raw foods to fuel and repair itself daily! You find these nutrients primarily in raw fruits, veggies, nuts, seeds, sprouts, sprouted grains, legumes, etc. These micro-nutrients found in plant based foods is the missing link in the macro-nutrient model, leaving you undernourished at the cellular level. Once you nourish the body with these micro-nutrients, weight should melt off your body naturally and the journey towards optimal health and preventing disease will be the added bonus. All it takes is a lifestyle change!
The next question becomes: “What does a micro-nutirent dense model look like for each of your meals?” During each meal, you should be filling half or 50 to 60% of your plate with raw or lightly steamed plant based foods, 30% beans or legumes, and 5 to 10% of good sources of fat. Your snacks should consist of fruits, nuts, and seeds. When consuming meat, try organic grass fed beef or wild caught fish and consume no more than 6 oz per day. You will get most of your protein, carbs, and fat from the nutrient dense foods listed above, albeit, grass fed beef or wild caught fish, are great sources of protein and fat as well.
Also, you must consume plenty of water daily to help hydrate your body, so the nutrients you eat will get absorbed into your cells. Without adequate hydration, your cells will not absorb the nutrients you eat at optimal levels, therefore, minimizing your ability to utilize the nutrients you consume at a maximum potential. Once you begin eating nutrient dense foods and drinking lots of water daily, you will begin to notice that you are losing weight, having more energy, better concentration throughout the day, less aches and pains, etc.
To make it easier on your transition to this micro-nutrient program, this site has a nutrition guide and recipe section to help you get started and begin on the right track. The recommendations are general in nature; not specific, so you must make adjustments as you see fit. For example, organic fresh tofu can be supplemented with grass fed beef, so be creative when you make your meals.
Depending on your current health, you may experience detoxification effects from the program. If you do, just go at your own pace, and do what you can handle.
