As American culture continues to center itself around convenience, the state of health in this country will continue to decline year after year. The majority of Americans make decisions based solely on utility and convenience. This kind of philosophy has made its way into the health and nutrition world and it is costing peoples lives in the process.
There are so many diet fads that are advertised in magazines, doctor’s offices, health food stores, book stores, even on t.v., etc. Majority of these weight loss programs are based on the American convenience philosophy, therefore, enabling you to have your cake and eat it too!! Diets such as the Atkins diet, Dr. Barry Sears’ Zone Diet, Weight Watchers, Jenny Craig, Lean Cuisine, etc., are multiple examples of dieting with pleasure! These diet plans are attractive because of the emphasis placed on the palatable indulgence of eating lots of fat, animal proteins, and junk food.
You may experience more energy, weight loss, a better physique, changes in blood pressure, lower cholesterol levels, and other health benefits. However, these food sources do not remineralize, build, repair, regenerate, or nourish your blood and tissues. The ramifications of eating this way increases your chances of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, cancer, etc. Over time, your body will become deficient in vitamins and minerals, exhaust digestive and metabolic enzymes, destroy your intestinal environment, making your blood and tissues acidic, therefore, changing your internal environment into a toxic soup!
Are the short-term benefits of these weight loss programs worth the potential long-term dangers? The obvious answer is no, but the long-term dangers may not be enough for you or others to stop consuming a diet high in fat, animal protein, and junk food. The foods and meals taste delicious, there are short-term health benefits, and eating healthier for preventative measures does not sound very appetizing. However, what these diet fads often do to people, possibly, yourself, is lead you down a path of perpetual frustration, resentment, and failure! Plus, it requires you to count calories, measure food quantities, and focus on portion control to the point of controlling your everyday life. To make matters worse, the moment you stop the diet, its almost guaranteed that most, if not all, of the weight you lost will come back. This leads to emotional burnout and the option of trying another diet makes you feel exhausted before it even begins.
How would you like to stop the calorie counting, portion controlling, weight gain/loss roller coaster? If the answer is yes, here is a way to look at food differently, so that you can eat without guilt, lose weight naturally, and eat a broad range of foods, that leave you nourished, fulfilled, and, as an added bonus, help you to prevent diseases in the process!
Looking at the nutrient density of the foods you are consuming is what matters! The more nutrient dense a food is, the higher the levels of minerals, vitamins, phytonutrients, fiber, and enzymes are in the food, moreover, building and repairing your blood/tissues, boosting your immune system, correcting metabolic processes, increasing energy and stamina, increasing sex drive, and the list of benefits goes on and on. So, it is recommended that you consume 80 to 85% of your calories from plant based foods, e.g., fruits, veggies, nuts, seeds, sprouts, sprouted grains, and legumes. The list of foods in these categories are very large, so this provides you with a plethora of meal ideas that will not lead to burnout, plus, you can consume large amounts of these plant based foods without the worry of weight gain!! Who knew that you will be able to eat more, have more foods to choose from, never feel deprived, and know that you are preventing disease, all at the same time! Your daily intake of animal based protein should be limited to 10% of your calorie intake daily and 5% should come from good sources of fat.
